John Davis
Mangrum
January 5, 1932 – February 26, 2025
John Davis Mangrum, age 93, of LaVergne, TN, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 26, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on January 5, 1932, in Hickman County, Tennessee, John was the cherished son of Bertrand Earl Mangrum and Audrey Mae Moss Mangrum.
A proud member of The Tennessee National Guard, John's unit was activated during the Korean War, leading him to serve as a Military Policeman at Fort Meade, Maryland. It was there that he met the first love of his life, Frances Estelle Stoutsenberger, and they married in 1951. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three sons: Ronald Lee, David, and Kenneth Wayne.
John dedicated 30 years to a career with Safeway Foods before retiring and returning to Tennessee with Estelle. Tragically, after 35 years of marriage, Estelle succumbed to cancer in 1986. John found love again the following year with Nancy Mae Maxwell Garner, and their whirlwind romance blossomed into nearly 30 years of marriage. Though it took time, John grew close to Nancy's children—Phillip, Alan (Kathy), Cindy, Naomi, Lisa, and Glenn—loving them as his own.
John's legacy is one of faith, love, and devotion. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother James E. Mangrum, sister Betty C. O'Neil, stepchildren Phillip Garner and Cindy Miller, great-grandson Kaleb Miller, first wife Frances Estelle Stoutsenberger Mangrum, and second wife Nancy Garner Mangrum.
He is survived by his three sons, four stepchildren, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish his memory and the love he shared with them. John will be remembered for his steadfast faith, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and numerous friends.
Visitation with the family will be at Woodfin Chapel Smyrna Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 9:00-12:00 PM. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM with David Mangrum and Glenn Garner officiating. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sherwood, Tennessee at 3:00 PM.
