Obituary

Mr. John E. Howell, age 84, formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born in Chicago to the late James and Veronica Howell. Mr. Howell proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and lifetime member of the VFW. He then got into the insurance industry and was successful financial planner who specialized in small group health insurance. Mr. Howell was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He involved with the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth-degree knight. Mr. Howell enjoyed sports and remained an avid sportsman throughout his life. He played hockey until his mid-40s, pitched 16" softball until he was 70, and stopped playing racquetball at 81. His best golf score was 72. Mr. Howell was supportive of his family. If he wasn't already there to watch his children, he was coaching tee ball, baseball, soccer, and hockey.

Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Howell; children, John Howell and his wife Kim, Daniel Howell, Gerald Howell and his wife Alex, and Megan Fish and her husband Berenger; six grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Howell and his wife Jeannie; numerous nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companion, Duffy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Howell, Thomas Howell, and Billy Howell.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Miliary Honors will take place at 7:15pm. A rosary will be held at 7:30pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00pm at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
