JOHN ALBERT BARRETT age 72 of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday April 5, 2011. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Billy Gracy and Hilda Heath Barrett. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Minnie Palmer and Rebecca Lawson. Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gayle Kilgore Barrett; son Neal (Terri) Barrett of Rossville, GA; daughter, Shannon (Joe) Vanderveen of Antioch, TN; grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Barrett, Amber (Travis) Owens, Lauren Hughes and Hannah Barrett; great-grandchildren, Mason Owens and Carter Barrett; sisters, Jenny LaFleur of Murfreesboro, TN and Marie Taylor of Goodlettsville, TN; brothers, Billy Barrett, Jr. of Wyoming, Robert, David and Lawrence Barrett all of Murfreesboro, TN. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Friday April 8, 2011 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Smith and Rev. Pam Pilote officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Robert and Kirk Lewellen, Jim Ritter, Tony Snook, Charles Bryson, Jay and Will Walker, Rick Templeton, Jerry Knox and Jimmy Jobe serving as pallbearers. First Baptist Church deacons, chancel choir members and Pathfinders Sunday School class members will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Barrett was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He was a kind and gentle man who loved life, family, his fellow man and his Lord. He was also a U. S. Army Reserve veteran and retired from Paramount Packaging and Sonoco. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Churchs Were Here for Life program, 200 E. Main Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130, or Community Care of Rutherford County, 901 East County Farm Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37127 in memory of Mr. Barrett.
