Joe P. "Punk" Rooker, Sr., age 78, of Murfreesboro passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Joseph Jennings and Ethel Cook Rooker.

Funeral service will be 10:00am Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Jack Dozier and Ashton McWhorter will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

He is survived by his wife, Telena Sue Lewis Rooker, sons, Robert Jennings Rooker and his wife Melanie of Murfreesboro, Joe Presley Rooker, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Manchester, daughters, Tina Marie Rooker of Murfreesboro, Leigh Bratcher and her husband Keith of Murfreesboro, sister, Mary Joyce Harrell of Columbus, GA, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Mr. Rooker was a member of Providence Primitive Baptist Church. He was a 1958 graduate of Walter Hill High School, served 38 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard and was retired from the Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Hospital as grounds superintendent.
