Obituary

Joe Harold Collier, Sr., age 87, passed away November 14, 2016.  He was born November 27, 1928 in D'Lo, Mississippi to parents Ira C. (Red) Collier and Bonnie Waldrop Collier. Joe was a dog lover, an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting in his younger years.  He was an Eagle Scout and very proud that his son Joe Jr. and grandson Ty Collier followed in his footsteps earning Eagle Scout as well.

He graduated from Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi then earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University.  He served in the army as a First Lieutenant spending 2 1/2 years in England during the Korean War.  After leaving the army, he pursued a career in civil engineering and construction that spanned 53 years.  He had his own business, Collier Construction Company, for 20 years.  In his later years, he worked with Waste Water Management as an inspector and finally retired at age 78.

He was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN.  His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Cagle Collier, son Joe H. Collier, Jr. and wife Belinda Collier, daughter Dr. Joan Henning and husband Chris Henning, grandsons Ty Redmond Collier, Barry W. Duggin, Derrick C. Duggin, James Copeland Henning, and John Collier Henning.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 18, 2016 from 12:00noon until 2:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 2:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Reverend Pam Pilot and Dr. Noel Schoonmaker will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers are the Zachariah Sunday School Class, Bill Allen and Ben Cates.

Memorials for Mr. Collier can be made to First Baptist Church - Building Fund, 200 East Main Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 or to Boy Scout Troop 416 also sent to First Baptist Church.
