JoAnn McGowan

JoAnn McGowan, age 92, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

She was born on April 17, 1934 to Domenic and Lucy Avellino. She lived a full life with love, kindness, and devotion to her family. She was a beloved mother of five, grandmother of twelve, great grandmother of twenty, and friend whose warmth and generous spirit touched the lives of many.

She is survived by her children, Lynn (Mike) DeGroff, Steve (Debbie) McGowan, Diane (Wayne) Westmoreland, and Rich (Kim) McGowan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Domenic and Lucy Avellino; husband, Richard J. McGowan; and daughter, Kathleen McGowan.

The family would like to express a special thank you to her beloved friend and bocce buddy, Edna Scott and to the Villages of Murfreesboro Memory Care.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 28, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.
