HOLMES, JOANN MITCHELL " age 80 of Murfreesboro TN passed away Monday, November 1st, 2011 at Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Commander James Mann and Erma Louise Mitchell and her husband J. S. Holmes Jr. She is survived by her son John S. Holmes, III of Knoxville and her sister Barbara Mitchell Welch of Dallas TX. Born July 6, 1931 in Steubenville, Ohio, Joann graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1953. During a short teaching career in Arlington VA, she met and married J. S. Holmes Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN in 1956. They were married for forty years. Joann served with distinction for twenty-six years as Director of Volunteer Services at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Joann is a Past President of the Rutherford Hospital Auxiliary, and was an active member of the Murfreesboro Charity Circle. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Middle Tennessee Medical Center Foundation. She was a devoted and involved member of the First Presbyterian Church of Murfreesboro; TN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday November 5, 2011. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville.
