JERRY BURKS, age 71 of Murfreesboro died Wednesday October 6, 2010 at his home. He was a native of Rutherford County was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Rowland Burks, his parents, Comer P. and Votra Geneva Chumney Burks, sister, Beulah Mae Burks, and a brother, James Howard Burks. Mr. Burks was a member of Anchor Independent Baptist Church and was a retired Security Officer with Richs Products. He was a former member of Tennessee National Guard and Army Reserve. Mr. Burks was an avid sportsman loving to fish and hunt through out the year, He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved life and would always put a smile on your face. He will be missed by many family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria Layhew Burks; daughters, Tammy Merritt and husband, David of Unionville, Penny Miller and husband, Scoty of Murfreesboro; sons, Robin W. Burks of California, Jerry Bubba Burks of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Christy, Ashley, Steven, Amber, Cole, Jesse, Kelsey, Madison, and Megan; great-grandchildren, Noah, Lane, Andrea, and Baylee; brothers, Hoyte Burks and wife Dot of Mt. Juliet, Ted Burks of Woodbury, and Leon Burks and wife Pat of Manchester; and one sister, Velvia Vaughan of Murfreesboro. The Family would like to express special thanks to Odyssey Hospice, and the staff, and Dr. John Zubkus and his staff for their help in there recent time of need. Funeral service will be 2:00PM Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Doyle Sadler and Rev. Gaylon Dawson officiating.
