Jean Wendt Folk, age 90, died suddenly and peacefully at home on Friday, September 7, 2012. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Wendt, Sr. and Peachie Hardison Wendt of Wilmington, NC, where Jean was born and raised. She was also preceded in death by her husband Fred Folk; brother William Henry Wendt, Jr.; nephew David Holmes Wendt; and her aunt Kathleen Peters. Mrs. Folk is survived by her three children James (Cathy) Folk of Nashville, John (Dawn) Thompson of Asheville, NC, Susan (Glenn) Brian of Murfreesboro, and step-son Mike (Karen) Folk of Urbana, IL; nine grandchildren Ginny (John) Warren of Los Angeles, CA, Zoie (Jonathan) Hoppe , Kesed (Jared) Crowson both of Asheville, NC, Cara (Andre) Barthels of Haysville, NC, Matt (Casy) Brian of Murfreesboro, Rebecca (John) Parker of Manchester, TN, Rachel (Joel) Olson of Nashville, Joshua (Silvia) Folk of Vancouver, BC, and Peter (Cecelia) Folk of Urbana, Illinois; 14 great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law Lucy Wendt; nephew Bill (Marilyn) Wendt both of Raleigh, NC; and niece Julie (Steve) Miller of Wilmington, NC. Mrs. Folk was a fifty year member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, an active member of the Minerva Harrell Sunday School Class and her Community Bible Study group for twelve years. She was a graduate of East Carolina University and taught elementary school children for many years in Jacksonville, NC, Wilmington, NC, Karlsruhe, Germany and Murfreesboro. Kure Beach, NC was a very special place for her and she cherished the days she spent there, enjoying the cool breeze off the ocean. She was a kind soul, a peacemaker, a true Southern Lady as often described, and was much-loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A rememberance and celebration of Jeans life is planned for Saturday, September 15th at 2:00 PM at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1267 N. Rutherford Blvd. Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. No flowers please. A private burial will follow the service.
