Janie Margaret McBroom Rakes, age 68, passed away at Centennial Medical Center after complicating issues with her heart. She passed peacefully with her family at her bedside early Sunday morning, February 22, 2015. Janie was a native of Lascassas, TN and a long-time resident of both the Triune and College Grove communities. She was the daughter of the late J.W. McBroom and Peggy McBroom Vaught of Lascassas, TN. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. Brother John Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery. Mrs. Rakes is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Jerry Rakes; sons, Marty Rakes and his wife Beth of College Grove, TN, Joey Rakes and his wife Sherry of Eagleville, TN, and Bobby Rakes and his wife Cristy of Washington, DC; eight grandchildren, Morgan, Anna, Dakota, Dylan, Maggie, Logan, Abigail and Andrew; brother, Bill McBroom and his wife Mary Lynn of Lascassas, TN; and two step-brothers, Mike Vaught of Lascassas, TN and Stan Vaught of Milton, TN. Mrs. Rakes was a member of Arrington Church of Christ. She was currently the secretary with College Grove Elementary where she had worked for 35 years. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to College Grove Elementary School PTO at 6668 Arno-College Grove Road College Grove, Tennessee 37046 or to Arrington Church of Christ at 7686 Nolensville Road in Nolensville, TN 37135. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00PM to 8:00PM and Wednesday from 12:00Noon to 2:00PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro.
