Obituary

Janet Grace Maddux Sloan, age 78, passed away on August 9, 2016 in Nashville after an extended illness. Janet was born to Mae Sherrill Maddux and the late Roy Maddux in Jacksboro, TX.

Janet attended college at Abilene Christian, Lipscomb, and Middle Tennessee State Universities, but never finished her studies. Instead, she married a dashing U.S. Air Force officer and started a family. She was a devoted Christian and helped initiate the Meals on Wheels program at North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro. She was a true Southern Belle, accomplished in art, sewing, gardening, as well as hostess to numerous garden and bridge parties. She was a superlative in crocheting, needlework, and in everything that involved a needle and thread. She was eager to pass on these skills and taught many people how to sew, knit, and crochet.

Her family looks forward to seeing her again, way up above the blue vaults of heaven at the wedding feast of the Lamb. Her finest accomplishments were being a good wife, a great mother, and an outstanding grandmother: let us not forget, a devoted friend. She poured out comfort and happiness upon all she met.

She is survived by her devoted husband Joseph Sloan, Nashville; her four children, Jay Sloan and Eugenia Sloan Bush both of Nashville, Jennifer Sloan Barrett of Murfreesboro, Jon-Roy Sloan of Dickson; eight grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.

A private memorial service was held at her home and an online guestbook is available for the Sloan family at www.woodfinchapel.com
