Obituary

JANE RIDLEY MATTHEWS TARPLEY passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at AdamsPlace Health Center with family by her side. Preceded in death by her father and mother, Epps Edwin Matthews and Sara Ridley Matthews of Walter Hill, brother, Epps Edwin Matthews, Jr. and her devoted husband of sixty one years, Thomas Madison Tarpley of Murfreesboro. Jane grew up in Walter Hill attending Walter Hill school. Her college years were spent at Ward Belmont Womens Preparatory College, Nashville and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, The Charity Circle, the Womens Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Janes great grandfather was Colonel Anderson Searcy. He built the family home place in Walter Hill after the Civil War. Jane and her husband, T.M., lived on the family farm for fifty five years. Jane was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, and mother. She was a volunteer, homemaker, wonderful seamstress and loved her flower garden. She leaves her two daughters, Sally (Steve) Nelson of Nashville and Betsy (Doug) Lesher of Knoxville; grandchildren, Laws Nelson of Nashville, Sara Lesher of Murfreesboro, and Emily (Blair) Shwedo of Charlotte, NC; nephew Andy (Kristy) Matthews. Our mother was a patient of Dr. Frank Carter for many years. The family would like to thank Dr. Carter and his wonderful staff at AdamsPlace for their excellent care, support and compassion during these last weeks. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 265 W. Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Graveside service will be 3:00pm Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Perkins will officiate.
