James Robert Whitley, age 90 of LaVergne, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026. A native of Davidson, County, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Whitley and Louella Seat Whitley. Mr. Whitley was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Annie Pauline "Polly" Knox Whitley, grandson-in-law, Gary Cumberland, and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Whitley is survived by his son, Robert Paul Whitley and his wife Sharon Evonne Whitley of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth "Liz" Cumberland and Ashley (Erik) Tomlinson both of Murfreesboro and Paul Randall (Nina) Whitley of Smyrna, TN; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Elizabeth, Ava, Reece, Easton, Luke, and Annie; niece, Donna Cox; nephews, Don Whitley and Alex Whitley.

Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with Rev. Ronnie Presley officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
