Obituary

JAMES DELMAR STEVENS, age 70 of Smyrna TN died at his home on Thursday February 25, 2010. He was a native of Potosi MO and was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Stevens, and Mary Warden Stevens, a brother, Richard Stevens and nephew, Roger Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church, and was retired Chief Master Sergeant with Unites States Air Force. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service as Operation Non-commissioned Officer in Charge, 26th Casualty Staging Flight, Republic of Vietnam, while engaged in ground operations against on opposing armed force, from December 1968 till August 1969.After retirement from the USAF in 1978 He was Chief Financial Officer with Brazos County MHMR Center in Bryan, TX from 1978 till 1980, then Assistant Administrator of Edgefield Hospital from 1980 till 1991. Mr. Stevens became Financial Officer of Metro Nashville Employees Board from 1994 till 2004. He was working as a Tax Advisor with H&R Block since 2005. Mr. Stevens was Assistant Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts of America in TX and CA, Sunday School Director at 1st Baptist in Antioch, and an avid Pilot. He received a Master Degree in Public Administration at University of Oklahoma, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Culver-Stockton College. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Stevens; children, Curtis Stevens and his wife, Hillary of LaVergne, TN, Angela Stevens of Houston, TX, Marvin Stevens and his wife, Betty of Washington, MO, Virginia Lewis of Union, MO; granddaughter, Summer Stevens; mother of his children, Effie Stevens of Houston, TX; nieces, Judy Senger, Carol Cates; nephews, Todd Cox, Scott Cox, David, Jamie, and Lynn Stevens. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Leukemia Foundation or the American Lung Association, and local Animal Rescue Organization. Funeral services will be 11:30 Tuesday at St. Lukes Catholic Church with Father Richard Gagnon officiating. Burial will follow at Middle Tennessee Veteran Cemetery with full Military Honors.
