James Douglas Schmidt, age 87 of Smyrna died Monday August 20, 2012. He was a native of Caseyville, Illinois and was the son of the late, James Schmidt and Margaret Schmidt Higgins. Mr. Schmidt was a member of Smyrna Church of the Nazarene, and World War II Veteran. He was a graduate of Collinsville High School class of 1943 and was retired V.P. of Ryder Refrigerated Systems in Nashville. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Sam Davis Masonic Lodge and Al Menah Shriners. He was former Commander of the Legion of Honor. Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife, Rosetta Reeves Schmidt; children, Jackie Turner of Murfreesboro, Vernon Schmidt and wife Sharon of Murfreesboro, Sandra Schmidt of Smyrna, Jimmy Schmidt and wife Angie of Smyrna; grandchildren, Kelly Turner of Murfreesboro, Daniel Turner and wife Jessica of Smyrna, Abby Schmidt of Murfreesboro, Barry Rogers of Woodbury; great-grandchildren, Kara Brown of Murfreesboro, Addison Turner of Smyrna; sister, Jane Higgins of California; nephews, Larry Schmidt, of Illinois, Douglas Schmidt of Illinois, Timothy Higgins of Florida, and Douglas Higgins of Illinois. Graveside service will be 2:00PM Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pastor Tony Clemons will officiate.
