James Steven Sanders, age 82 of Murfreesboro died Monday January 8, 2024. He was a native of Carthage TN and was preceded in death by his parents, William Sanders and Mary Roller Sanders.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. He was known for his love for the Lord and his burning desire to share that with everyone. He was also known for his selflessness, philanthropy, and he made the world a better place for so many.

Mr. Sanders was retired from Motion Industries after a successful career as a regional manager for more than 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Washington D.C. for much of his military career. Mr. Sanders was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard for Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy.

He survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Sanders; daughters, Desiree Netherland, and Varity Stone (David); grandchildren, Daniel Netherland (Linda), Cameron Stone (Spenser),  Ashton Stone; brother, Ralph Sanders (Barbara); sister, Mildred Zimmerman;  and loving care givers, Carolyn Harris, and Christy Faulk.

Visitation will be 2:00PM to 4:00PM Saturday, January 13, 2024. Funeral service will be 4:00PM Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be 2:00PM Tuesday January 16, 2024 at  the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. www.woodfinchapel.com
