James Herschel Mullins, age 96 of Murfreesboro died Tuesday July 17, 2012. He was a native of Rutherford County and was the son of the late, Charles Herbert and Ollie Haithcock Mullins. Mr. Mullins was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Alsup Mullins. He was a member of Florence Road Church of Christ where he served as an Elder. Mr. Mullins was founder of Mullins Jewelry in Murfreesboro which began March 1, 1938, when Mr. Mullins opened his doors for business on the Public Square in Murfreesboro. Trained as a watch maker, Mr. Mullins expanded his business in to a full service jewelry store, and with help of his family remained open till January 9, 2010. He served at Sky Harbor and Sewart Air Force Base as an Aircraft Instrument repairman during World War II. He is survived by three sons, Charles Robert Mullins and wife Charlene of Murfreesboro, James Alsup Mullins and wife Margie of Murfreesboro and Thurman Glenn Mullins and wife Ann of Lebanon; grandchildren; Jeff Mullins and wife Kim of Murfreesboro, Tim Mullins and wife Shelley of Smyrna, Kathy Mullins Oxley and husband Jimmy of Lebanon, Michael Mullins of Nashville, Michelle Romano and husband Bobby of Oyster Bay, New York, Jeremy Mullins of Orlando, Florida, Melanie Williams and husband Rob of Lebanon, Jennifer Graves and husband Guy of Mt. Juliet, Amanda Marvin and husband Michael of Murfreesboro; 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Mullins was a proud member of the Florence Historical Society. The Family wishes to thank the staff at Adams Place for the excellent care given to Mr. Mullins and his family. Memorials may be made to Florence Road Church of Christ, the Gladeville Church of Christ and Odyssey Hospice in memory of Mr. Mullins. Grandsons and Grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. Herb Alsup and Bro. Marion West with officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
