"Mike" Avery
December 7, 1942 – April 30, 2017
James M. "Mike" Avery, age 74 of Murfreesboro, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017. He was a native Cape Girardeau, Missouri and the son of the late Samuel H. and Lawanda L. Golden Avery.
Funeral service will be 11:00am Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brad Demonbreun and Roger Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ann Vann Avery, children, Mike Avery, Jr. and his wife Robin of Murfreesboro, Ken Bonds and his wife Kathy of Huntsville, AL, Michelle Wimpy and her husband Kevin of Newnan, GA, Jeanne Battle of Murfreesboro, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mr. Avery attended Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and had served in the US Air Force during Vietnam. He was owner of A.M.A Electrical, served on the Rutherford County Beer Board and was a Constable of Rutherford County's 6th District. Mike owned Avery Investigations; a state licensed Private Investigative Firm that focused on serving warrants and civil activities. He attended University of Phoenix at age 60, graduating with his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. He served as Court Officer, Bailiff, for Judge James Clayton, 16th District Circuit Court Judge, and had a relationship with Wherry Housing starting in 1995 and has served as President of the Cooperative since early 1999.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in his memory.
