James "Jim" Christian Bauman III

James "Jim" C. Bauman III, age 76, of Murfreesboro TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

He was a man who lived life on his own terms—casual, hardworking, tough as nails, and always ready with a story, a joke, or an opinion whether you asked for one or not.

A salesman by trade, Jim had a natural way with people. He could talk to just about anyone, and if you spent enough time around him, you were likely to hear a story, a little good-natured teasing, or perhaps a detailed explanation of exactly what you were doing wrong.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and treasured the time he spent with his friends and family. He also had a love for video games and could often be found enjoying one of his favorite games, walking slowly around with a grossly encumbered inventory, or giving someone else advice on how they should be playing it. 

If you ever needed his help, he would give it to you. He might first explain, in great detail, exactly how you had managed to screw something up—but he would still be there to fix it. That was his way. Beneath the teasing and bluntness was a man who cared deeply about the people he loved and could be counted on when it mattered.

Jim was also incredibly strong. He faced multiple heart attacks, several injuries, diabetes, cancer and many other challenges throughout his life, yet he continued to fight and keep moving forward. His toughness was a defining part of who he was.

He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Wendy, who stood beside him and took extraordinary care of him throughout their life together. Her love, devotion, and care meant more than words can express.

He leaves behind Wendy Bankston, Joseph Bauman, Shelby Salyers, his namesake James Christian Bauman IV, and Brandon Bankston as well as countless friends who will remember his humor, his stubbornness, his generosity, his stories, and his unmistakable personality.

Those who knew Jim will remember a man who didn't always say “I love you” in the traditional ways. Sometimes love sounded like a sarcastic comment, a lecture about what you did wrong, or a gruff, “Here, let me do it.” But he showed up. He helped. He fought. And he loved his people in his own way profoundly. He will be deeply missed, but his stories, his laughter, his lessons, and the memories he made with the people he loved will live on.

Rest easy, Dad. You've fought long enough. It's time to put your feet up, grab a fishing pole, and enjoy the peace you've earned.

A graveside service with the family will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery at 11:15 AM.
