James "Brother James" Gafford, age 86 of La Vergne died Sunday November 23, 2025, at his home. He was a native of Ashland City, TN and was preceded in death by his wife Carol Gafford who died in 2020.

Mr. Gafford was member Word of Life Christian Center International. He spent all of his life serving the community of La Vergne and South Nashville. Mr. Gafford was a Fireman for over 63 years and was Fire Chief in La Vergne for over 40 years. He was very instrumental in shaping the careers of many Firemen and was a mentor to so many.

He is survived by two sisters Sherrie Tibbetts, and husband Rick and Carolyn Williams, and husband Hugh. Brother-in-law, Alexander Arthur and wife Clarissa   and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday December 4th 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Funeral service will Friday December 5th 10:00 AM at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Interment will follow in Christ Church Memorial Gardens. www.woodfinchapel.com
