Highland
July 20, 1935 – May 23, 2018
James "Jim" Highland, age 82, of Murfreesboro, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. A native of Lexington, KY, he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lydia Wilson Highland; along with two brothers, and a sister.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Henry Highland; children, Margaret Suggs and her husband Bill, Marc Highland and his wife Kendra, Chad Clay and his wife Robyn, and Nikki Baxter; and 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Highland was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. He was a minister all of his life and even after he retired he fulfilled interim pastor roles. Mr. Highland also served as a bi-vocational Pastor. He worked at MTSU and was a Professor of Theology at Newburgh Seminary in Newburgh, IN. Mr. Highland was a care giver and would give you the shirt off his back. His words were always kind, gentle, and reassuring but even when they didn't have to be.
He loved music and was an avid reader. He enjoyed the theater and one of his favorite plays was the Phantom of the Opera.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Highland can be made to the First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2018, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Tom Henry and Minister Pam Pilote will officiate. Visitation will be Monday before the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
