JAMES THOMAS ALLEN, MD, age 92, of Murfreesboro died Sunday December 28, 2008. He was born in Boise City, OK to the late John Lindsay and Odalee Allison Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Ann Rook Allen in November, 1989. Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Dr. Mike Smith and Dr. Eugene Coty will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by adopted family, Charles and Kay Moore, Gabriel, Jennifer, Noel, and Karis Moore, Jamie, Daranee, Savannah and Sawyer Bigelow, close friends, Joe and Margaret Collier, Dr. Robert Hackman and his wife, Margie, all of Murfreesboro, cousin, Robert White and family of Boise City, OK. Dr. Allen completed high school in 1934, BS degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1938, and MD from Vanderbilt University in1942. He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII as a Battalion Surgeon in England, France, Netherlands, Germany, and the Pacific and Philippine Islands. After active duty, Dr. Allen continued in the Army Reserves for a total of 28 years of service. Post graduate medical studies were completed in Rochester, NY and Vanderbilt. In 1951 until 1955 he had a private practice in Waverly, TN, 1955 until 1969, a medical practice in Dickson, TN, and from 1969 until 1983 he was Chief of Medical Services at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center. Dr. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1969. Pallbearers will be Joe Koenig, Joe Taylor, Ed Graves, W.D. Higgenbotham, Del Armstrong, John Farmer, Joe Collier Sr, Joe Collier, Jr, Bruce Plummer, Eric Read, Allen Watts, Bill Allen, Ronald Barrett, Doug Brown, and David Peterson.
