Obituary

Jack Owen Smith, age 81, of Murfreesboro died Thursday, August 2, 2012. He was a native of Atlanta, GA and the son of the late John Walter and Lula Mae Waits Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lera Speir Smith in 2010 and brother, Donald G. Smith. Funeral service will be 2:30pm Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Mike Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his son: John David Smith and his wife Kimberly of Rockvale, daughters, Joan Medley and her husband Randy of Chattanooga, Jacquelyn Hayden and her husband Ricky of Bardwell, KY, Joyce Lawrence and her husband Michael of Murfreesboro, brothers, Roy E. Smith and his wife Mildred of Marietta, GA, Jimmy L. Smith and his wife Virginia of Cave Spring, GA, sister, Ruth E. Lindwald of Hot Springs, AR, grandchildren, Justin Medley and his wife Ashley, Sarah Medley, Kimberly Rundles and her husband Justin, Tyler Hayden, Nathan Lawrence and his wife Ashley, Morgan Lawrence and Lauren Smith, great-grandchildren, Camden and Brylee Medley, and Hayden Rundles. Mr. Smith was a member of Third Baptist Church. He was a 1948 graduate of Fulton High School in Atlanta, retired from the United States Air Force in 1969, and was employed by Anderson Chemical Company for 23 years until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Smith was a member of The Gideons International and served in the Middle Tennessee area for many years. He was also a volunteer with the Tennessee Baptist Disater Relief and Meals on Wheels. He proudly served as an Ambassador for Creekside at Three Rivers. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Third Baptist Church and the men of Murfreesboro Gideons. Memorials may be made to Gideons International in his memory.
