Ivan E. Shewmake, Jr., age 70 of Murfreesboro passed away peacefully Saturday at his home. He was a native of Warren County and the son of the late Ivan and Jimmie Shewmake Sr. He is survived by his sister Sharon Binkley and nephew Anthony Binkley both of Nashville, his former wife Judy Shewmake of Murfreesboro; his stepchildren Stephen Dale of Murfreesboro and Ashleigh Dale Horne, her husband Andrew, and their children Andrew Jr. and John, all of Alexandria, VA, and lifelong friends David Bragg of Murfreesboro and Jerry Anderson of Dickson. Mr. Shewmake was a United States Army Veteran having served during Vietnam. He earned a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and a Master's Degree in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University. He later retired from MTSU in 1997 and during his tenure he served as the Associate Dean of Students for Men, the Assistant Director of University Housing and later the Director of University Housing and Student Ombudsman. Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5:00 pm until the time of the memorial services beginning at 6:00 pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
