Obituary

Israel (Izzy) Serrano was born on November 28th, 1948 in Caguas, Puerto Rico where he was raised in a loving family of 2 siblings (Victor and Luis Serrano) by his late parents Isaac and Crucita Serrano. He departed this life and went home to join his Father on February 5th, 2020. As an "Army Brat", Izzy had the great opportunity to travel domestic and abroad with his family.  At the age of 5yrs old, his father received his first Army orders and he and his family left Puerto Rico and relocated to Junction City, Kansas. They were then relocated to Kaiserslautern, Germany for 3yrs; Van Buren, Maine for 4yrs; Frankfurt, Germany for 4yrs and finally Clarksville, TN where his dad retired from the US Army and where he completed his last year of high school at Fort Campbell High.  One of his most memorable childhood experiences was when he and his family took a cross-country European vacation where he visited several major landmarks in France, Spain, Belgium and Italy.  Izzy then went on and graduated from Austin Peay State Univ with a degree in Business Administration and then Nashville State Tech Institute with a degree in Information Systems.

Izzy loved life, he loved to laugh, and he loved people. To Izzy, there was no such thing as a stranger. It was pretty simple with him…if you smiled, were friendly and laughed at his jokes you were instantly an extended family member. He also loved to make people happy.  One of his favorite things to do was throw over-the-top New Year's Eve parties and Pig Roasts which he carried on as a family tradition for 30+yrs. It was his way of bringing his family and close friends together. He was truly the "glue" that kept us as one big family unit.

Izzy was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Family always came first.  When meeting anyone new, he would brag about how he had 4 daughters and how he loved being surrounded by his girls. He always instilled in us the importance of family, faith in God, being kind and loving to each other, being proud of our Puerto Rican heritage and being there for each other no matter what. He also had the ability to surround himself with life-long friends that he truly loved and cherished like family.

He will be most remembered for his loving and kind heart, his crazy jokes, his wildly entertaining sense humor, his endless number of house projects (Busy-Izzy), his infectious smile and willingness and generosity to help anyone in need.

In his later years, when his health started to take a steep decline, it required him to let us become his caregivers. During this time, it allowed us to show him a small measure of the service he had long showed all of us.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring eternal wife, his rock, Barbara Serrano who he was married to for 40 years. His children Grace Rollins (Mark), Cristina Keruma (Jeff), Elena Serrano and Maria Barnes (Justin); his 3 grandchildren Isaac Rollins, Mikayla Rollins and Lukas Barnes; his brother, Luis Serrano and his 3 nieces, Nivia, Sherry and Mandi Serrano.

The family wishes to thank Wallie and Melinda Cervantez for your unwavering friendship and support and help with Dad during his time of need and Dan Simpson for his thoughtful service and tender care.
