HUGH BURTON MASON of LaVergne passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, one day before his 86th birthday. He was the son of the late Benton M. Mason, Sr., and Mabel Akin Mason. His only brother, Benton M. Mason, Jr., died in 1999. He spent his life on the family farm and was the last in a line of Masons who first settled in LaVergne in 1799. For the past three years, he has lived at Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield. Hugh Burton (Fatty) Mason was a faithful Democrat who had a special attachment to the pet dogs who shared his home in his later years. Mr. Mason is survived by his close cousins, Bill and Cindy Mason of Greenbrier. He is also survived by his first cousin, Bob S. Mason of Nashville, and his devoted friends Donnie and Teresa Fergus of LaVergne. Visitation with family and friends will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Woodfin Chapel Smyrna.
