Howard Childress, age 92 of Murfreesboro, died Thursday at his home. He was a native of McMinnville, TN and the son of the late William Floyd and Leoma Smith Childress. He was also preceded in death by his wife Jane Long Childress. He retired from the Rutherford Courier as a printer. Before his death, he was writing a book of fiction using his parents as the main characters with stories spanning the roaring twenties up to the late 1960's. Mr. Childress is survived by three sisters Polly Scott and her husband Gus of Dickson, Frances Orr of Tullahoma and Frankie Ayers of Maryland; his caregiver Kelly Lowe and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family. Visitation will be after 1:00pm Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel and graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday at Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Jim Clardy will officiate.
