Mr. Hoang Van Nguy, age 78, of Smyrna, TN passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam to the late Yen Ton Nguy and Thi Dung Troung. Huang joined the South Vietnamese Army at 19 as a helicopter translator. He worked side by side with the United States Army during the war translating for U.S. soldiers. Hoang then went to Guam translating for the American Red Cross until he came to Harrisburg, PA in 1975 as a refugee. After two years working at McDonald’s and with the help of an American sponsor family, for whom he also worked at their air conditioning repair business, he moved to Warminster, PA into his first American home. Hoang worked as a technician, servicing baby incubators at Air Shields-Vickers while attending night school at Temple University. He was promoted to Engineer at Air Shields-Vickers before he had even graduated in 1995 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Hoang and his family left Warminster in 1996 to move to Tennessee. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family. He was involved with Wat Lao Buddharam and Wat Lao PhrathatLuang of TN temples.
Hoang is survived by his wife of 45 years, Phoxay Nguy; son, Ronald Nguy; daughter, Amanda Nguy; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 5:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
