Hershel Melvin Layhew , age 59 of Rockvale, TN, passed away Monday December 5, 2016. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Hershel and Addie Mae Pitts Layhew. Mr. Layhew was also preceded in death by brothers, J. W. and Walter Layhew.

Mr. Layhew is survived by his wife, Blenda "Bea" Duncan Layhew; sons, Shane, Rusty, Brandt, and Jason Layhew all of Rockvale, TN; daughters, Tracy Brooksher of Chapel Hill, TN, and Alicia Singleton of LaVergne, TN; brother, Elmer Layhew of Rockvale, TN; sisters, Gloria Burks and Edith Windrow both of Rockvale, TN; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 6:00 PM Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with visitation from 4:00 PM until the 6:00 PM service. Minister Timothy Bryant will officiate.

Mr. Layhew was a former employee of SledgeCraft, Inc.
