Helen Ida Slavens of Belleville, IL, died on November 18, 2013 at the age of 99. Born April 9, 1914 in New Athens, IL, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ewald J. Dittmann and Katherine E. Dittman, and husband, John E. Slavens - a WWII veteran who died in 1960. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Johnson, and son-in-law, Doug, of Smyrna, TN; grandson, Chad Johnson and his wife, Kathi, of Nashville, TN; great-grandsons, Ezra(3) and Emet (due January 2014); cousin, LaDoris Schott, of Fairview Heights, IL. A family graveside service will be held in Belleville, IL at Valhalla Gardens of Memory. Helen's legacy is a life devoted to serving others and caring for family, which was her greatest love. While she will be daily missed, we celebrate her long life and we rejoice in knowing she has been reunited with those she loves.
