Mrs. Helen Margaret Salisbury died March 20, 2018, with her daughters holding her hands. She was born to John and Mattie Robinson Lawson in Ramer, TN, on August 26, 1923. She graduated Valedictorian of her class from Ramer High School, where she had many friends, joined several clubs, and enjoyed playing basketball. She was considered an enigma – a feminine young woman who did beautiful handiwork and played the piano, both by sight and by ear, while also having a pet snake!

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev. Chris Warren and Rev. Dr. Rebecca Salisbury will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to the time of service, followed by a family graveside service.

She had two great loves: the Rev. A.D. Salisbury, whom she met at church camp as a teenager, and education, especially classroom teaching. As professional opportunities presented themselves, she held several educational positions and honors in several states, and retired from Murfreesboro City Schools as Supervisor of Instruction.

Mrs. Salisbury and her husband of 63 years served various Cumberland Presbyterian Churches, he as an ordained minister, and she as a musician and Christian educator.

She earned a Bachelor's degree from Bethel University, and a Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She did additional extensive graduate work through the University of Tennessee, where she learned to fly an airplane!

This Christian renaissance woman is survived by two daughters, Rev. Dr. Margaret Rebecca Salisbury, and Cynthia Ruth Salisbury Stansell and her husband Ronald; two grandchildren, Judson Stansell and his wife Dr. Kayce, and Kara Stansell and her fiancé Phil Nugent; and two great-grandsons, Max and Evan Stansell.

Her family and friends celebrate the gifts and blessings God has given us through her life. Memorials may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Salisbury.
