Obituary

Harry Dewitt Sims, age 92, passed away March 24, 2013. A life-long resident of Murfreesboro, TN, he was born October 21, 1920, to Dewitt Sims and Bennie Mai Taylor Sims. He was a devoted and captivating husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother who loved and cared for his family beyond measure. He was fortunate enough to spot the love of his life, Marjorie Jones, on the square in downtown Murfreesboro, fall head over heels instantly, and spend the next 41 years by her side raising their three beautiful daughters and building his branch of the Sims family tree. When he wasn't spending time with loved ones, he took great joy in being outdoors on the farm or with friends. He was employed for 30 years with the Tennessee Carolina Transportation Company. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie Jones Sims, who passed away in 1987; parents, Dewitt Sims and Bennie Mai Taylor Sims; sisters, Hazel Turrentine, Evelyn Sims, Mary Sue Wallace and Nell Robertson; and brother, Charles Bart Sims. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rick Broadway and Bud Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Sims is survived by his daughters, Patsy Derr and her husband Carl of Graham, NC, Teresa Chiles and her husband West of Pulaski, TN, and Sandra Henry and her husband Bob of Pulaski, TN; grandchildren, Kelly Murphy of Smyrna, Caycee Murphy Ward and her husband Shawn of Knoxville, Marjorie Sims Henry of Nashville and Whitney Clark Henry Kimerling and her husband Alex of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Kassidy Spence, Taylor Ward and Benjamin Ward; and a great great-grandchild, Kingston Spence; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, 2120 Crestmoor Rd., Nashville, TN 37215 or Middle Tennessee State University Horse Science,314 West Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
