Obituary

Dr. Harry F. Hodge, Jr., age 81, died May 9, 2012. He was a native of Nashville, TN, and son of the late Harry F. and Elizabeth Ford Hodge. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM Saturday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel. A private family service will follow. Dr. Hodge is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Campbell Hodge, children, Deborah Nettles, Houston, TX, Richard Hodge (Jocelyn), Murfreesboro, and Brandon Hodge (Emily), Hendersonville; sister, Ruth James (Wayne), Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Christopher Nettles (Kelley), Richard Nettles, David Hodge, Megan Hodge, Graham Hodge, Campbell Hodge, and Hayden Hodge. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Sensabaugh and a brother, George Edward Hodge. Dr.Hodge was a 1948 graduate of Hume-Fogg High School and then served as a naval corpsman in the Marines. He attended Peabody College and was a graduate of The University of Tennessee. After teaching in Oak Ridge, TN, he completed his doctorate degree at Auburn University. Dr. Hodge taught at Memphis State University and UT Memphis before becoming Dean of the College of Education at Arkansas State University at the age of 35. He became the Dean of the College of Education at MTSU in 1980 where he retired in 1997. Dr. Hodge was instrumental in starting the Stones River Woodworkers Group in Murfreesboro.
