Dorris Grigg Davenport, Sr, age 79, of Murfreesboro, passed away June 16, 2015. He was a native of Rutherford County, and son of the late Albert and Hattie Lowe Davenport. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro Jerry Howard officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Mr. Davenport is survived by his wife, Sarah Louise Davenport; children, Dorris Grigg (Diane) Davenport, Jr, Murfreesboro, Timothy Kent (Rose) Davenport, Nashville, and Crystal Dawn (Steve) Wise, Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Jayson Grigg (Amanda) Davenport, Christopher Kent (Bethann Kelley) Davenport, Jennifer Dawn (Eric) Tedder, and Kyla Shea (Kurt) Randolph; great grandchildren, Parker Gage Davenport, Meric Sloan Tedder, Camdyn Shea Davenport, Brennan Brown Tedder, and AnnaBelle Scout Davenport; brother, Willie F. Davenport, Murfreesboro; and a sister, Lillie Beyer, Crossville. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Homer Woods Davenport. Mr. Davenport was a member of Mt Hermon Baptist Church and was retired from AVCO after 35 years of service. He was a 1956 graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School where he was an All-State basketball player. He was an avid camper and loved going to the lake with his family.
