Gordon Lee Schmitz, age 65, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Sunday November 10, 2013. A native of San Mateo, CA, he was the son of the late Berthold and Ruby Hintz Schmitz. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Schmitz. Mr. Schmitz is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann McCrary Schmitz; brothers and sisters in law, Michael McCrary (Peggy McGuire) of Howell, MI, Robert McCrary, and his wife Sandra, of Plymouth, MI, Sue McCrary of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ruth Stropes, and her husband Patrick, of Canton, MI; nephews, David, Peter, and Charles McCrary, Daniel and Jacob Stropes; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with Brother Tom Harrison officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Schmitz was of the Church of Christ faith, a US Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 585 in San Carlos, CA for 30 years, and a retired electrician.
