Glenn
Weaver
September 23, 1937 – October 5, 2020
Glenn Weaver was born on September 23, 1937 in the West Texas town of Lamesa. His parents were the late William Weaver and Ruby (Nelson) Weaver. He grew up during the Depression and World War II years surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. During his childhood his favorite pastime was playing baseball. According to those who knew him as a kid, he was a very good player.
In 1954, he enlisted in the Air Force. Glenn was very proud of the time he spent in the Strategic Air Command as a radio operator for a B-29 based in Germany. He was able to see many different parts of the world during this time and he often told stories about the different cultures and countries he saw during his time in the Air Force. His terminal rank was Staff Sergeant and he was honorably discharged in 1959.
After being discharged, he returned to Memphis, Tennessee where his mother and two brothers were now living. It was in Memphis he met and married Peggy Jean Johnson. They were married for 59 years. Shortly after arriving in Memphis, he took a job as a helper for Texas Automatic Sprinkler Company. He studied and eventually became a journeyman sprinkler fitter in 1961. He was rapidly promoted, and he soon became a foreman and then the construction superintendent for the company. Within a few years, he was hired by Perkins Automatic Sprinkler Company as an estimator/salesman and eventually became the regional manager. In 1976, he left Perkins and established his own sprinkler company in Jackson, Tennessee. This company was named Superior Fire Protection and was very successful. He sold the company in 2002 and retired.
Glenn was a big believer in Christian education and was one of the original founders of Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tennessee. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. All 3 of his children attended FHU, as did two of his grandchildren.
Glenn is survived by his wife Peggy (Johnson) Weaver of Murfreesboro, TN and two brothers who both live in Jackson, TN: Danny Jackson and his wife Joy and Bob Jackson and his wife Janet. He is also survived by his 3 children and their spouses: Steve and Peggy (Adams) Weaver of Jackson, TN; Jennifer and Will Bell of Murfreesboro; Amy and Tim Jones of Murfreesboro. He is survived by 8 grandchildren who adored him and called him Big Daddy because that is what his first grandson called him: Dalton Glenn Weaver II (his namesake) and his wife Marci who live in Jackson, TN; Rachael (Weaver) Shannon and her husband Colton who live in Murfreesboro; McKenna Bell, Shelby Jones, William "Little Will" Bell, Brooks Jones, Cooper Jones and Beckham Jones all of whom live in Murfreesboro. He also is survived by three great grandchildren: Max, Meryl and Murphy Shannon.
The last few weeks of his life were hard as his earthly body gave out on him, but he was constantly surrounded by his family who loved him very much. God took him from this life on October 5, 2020 at the age of 83. He is now in the loving arms of his Savior, and the family is convinced he is playing at least 36 holes of golf per day with Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, and Ben Hogan on a pristine course in heaven designed by Bobby Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all who wish to honor Glenn please make a contribution in his name to Middle Tennessee Christian School at the following address:
Middle Tennessee Christian School, 100 E. MTCS Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37130
