GLADYS HAMILTON MCCARTY age 93 of Murfreesboro died July 4, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Mrs. McCarty was a native of Shelbyville, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Mary Charlotte Long Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband E.L. McCarty who died in 1986. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Central Christian Church. Reverend Steven Odom will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. McCarty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary McCarty Roberts and James R. Roberts of Murfreesboro, three grandchildren James Richardson (Kate) Roberts Jr. of Nashville, Mary Bradford Roberts (Tom) McMakin of Bozeman, Montana, Deborah Roberts Horst of McLean, Virginia and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. McCarty was a member and Elder of Central Christian Church. She was an assistant to the Wing Commander at Sewart Air Force Base from 1942 until the base closing in 1965. Following her retirement she was active in her Garden Club, the Great American Sing-a-Long, Oaklands Association, Church Women United, and Christian Womens Fellowship. Pallbearers Earl Roberts Jr., George Huddleston Sr., Bob Huddleston, Don Follis, Tommy Hord, Bill Ledbetter, Floyd Wilson, Charley Williams, Tom Haynes, David Wilson, Hank Mills, Jim Longmire and David Kious. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
