Gilbert Wayne Tarpley, age 69, of Smyrna, TN passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012. A native of Nashville, TN he was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Dewitt Tarpley and Lorene Meadows Tarpley. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Burton Capps. A funeral service will be held Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel at 6:00PM. Dr. Johnny Duke will officiate. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00PM until the service time. Mr. Tarpley is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amie Tarpley - Goddard and Todd Goddard; best friend and grandson, Jerrod Tarpley " Goddard, along with Hannah Goddard, Christopher Tarpley and Heather Swanson; great grandchildren, Colby Tarpley and Chris Swanson; sister, Joy Capps and brother, Donald OGuin. Mr. Tarpley was retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters local 572 after 46 years of service. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends and former coworkers with Plumbers and Pipefitters local 572. Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
