George Luther McGowen

George Luther McGowen, age 97 of Smyrna, TN, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late John Henry McGowen and Annie Lou Barrett McGowen. Mr. McGowen was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ann Carter McGowan, a son, Mike McGowen, grandson, Michael McGowen, brothers, Johnny Frank McGowen and William D. McGowen, and a sister, Roberta Watson.

Mr. McGowen is survived by his son, Randall McGowen and his wife Debra of Rockvale, TN; brother, William Evon McGowen and his wife Shirley of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Natasha (Lamonte) Floyd, Jamie (MacArthur) Pollard, Belinda McGowen, Stephanie McGowen, and April (Jacob) Wilson; and several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Mapleview Cemetery with Brother Bobby Maxwell officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. McGowen was a member of the Church of Christ, a U. S. Army veteran, and former owner and operator of McGowen Well Drilling Services.
