Obituary

George Eugene Demumbreum, age 87 of Murfreesboro, died Friday, August 29, 2014. He was born April 3, 1927 in Nashville to the late Cleo Joe Demumbreum and Thelma Elizabeth Powell Herrod. He was also preceded by sons Howard Lewis Demumbreum who died as an infant and Wayne Eugene Demumbreum; a brother Noah Robert Demumbreum and a sister Ethel Elizabeth McCormick. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sylvia Harris Demumbreum; son Ernest Demumbreum and his wife Patti; a daughter Martha Jane Demumbreum; a daughter in law Diane Demumbreum and a brother Alfred Demembreum and his wife Claire, all of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren Becki Drake and her husband John David of Athens, AL, Steven, Joshua, and James Demumbreum and Rachel Davis and her husband Kenneth all of Murfreesboro and five great-grandchildren. George was a strong student of the Bible and member of Westvue church of Christ where he served as deacon. Mr. Demumbreum enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam War. He later retired on September 16, 1966 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon returning to Murfreesboro, he worked for Courier Printing until his retirement on July 30, 1993. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro. Rick Duggin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John David Drake, Steven, Joshua, and James Demumbreum, Kenneth Davis and Steven Dwight Holder. Sincere appreciation goes to Shelia Barrett, the doctors and staff of St Thomas Rutherford Hospital, the firefighters who assisted at various times, and to those who prayed, visited, called and offered encouragement during George's illness.
