Obituary

Gene Strobel, age 88, of Bell Buckle, TN passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016.  He was born in Nashville, TN to the late Robert William and Mary Langdon Strobel. Mr. Strobel attended the Cathedral of the Incarnation where he served as an altar boy. He graduated from Father Ryan High School in the class of 1945. Mr. Strobel then attended Peabody College where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. He later did doctoral work at Vanderbilt University and Louisiana State University. Mr. Strobel taught biology at Delta State University, Mississippi State College for Women, Louisiana State University, and Middle Tennessee State University. He was elected mayor of Bell Buckle in 1979 for three terms and was instrumental in rebuilding the town and establishing a town hall for the city. Mr. Strobel also proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Mr. Strobel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Bronn Strobel formerly of Natchez, MS; three daughters, Amy Strobel of Brooklyn, NY, Jane Strobel of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mary Ann Strobel Bartlett of Monteagle, TN; four grandchildren, Samuel Bartlett of Vail, CO, Helen Bartlett of Denver, CO, Jason Bartlett of New Orleans, LA, and Benjamin Strobel of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Joan Strobel of Nashville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Strobel, Raymond Strobel, and Carl Strobel.
