GENE CROCKETT SMOTHERMAN, age 95, passed away Monday, February 02, 2009. She was a native of Davidson County and the daughter of the late Thompson Overton and Rachael Spence Crockett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ridley Smotherman who died in 1986, brothers, Jack and Tom Crockett, and sister, Milbrey Harding. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. Darren Brandon will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Janice Smotherman of Bardstown, KY, brother, Hudley Crockett of Rockvale, four grandchildren, Laura Gene King, Susan Jane Rapier, Robert Ray Smotherman, all of Bardstown, KY, David Scott Smotherman of Louisville, KY, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smotherman was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville. She had worked for the Tennessee Department of Human Services and had taught school in Rutherford County for many years before her retirement. Pallbearers will be Jack R. Crockett, Joe L. Crockett, Paul Crockett, Phil Harding, David Livingston, Ken Crockett, and Lloyd Crockett.
