Gene Howard Graves

Mr. Gene Howard Graves, age 75, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Gene was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 28, 1951, to the late Howard Graves and the late Pearl Graves.

Mr. Graves served in the United States Navy after which he worked in the airline industry. It was while working for the airline that he settled in Nashville, Tennessee and met Crystal Belle Moore. Gene and Crystal would later marry and experience a romance lasting over 30 years.  Gene would eventually go on to work in the field of information technology with the Metropolitan Davidson County government, where he worked until his retirement.

Gene possessed a deep love of the written word, and he most loved reading about history. He could always be found with a book in his hands. If he wasn't actively reading, you could be sure that a book was well within reach.

Gene's love of travel allowed him to enjoy experiences throughout the United States, Europe, and the Far East. He also combined his love of travel with his love of sports. Gene loved to hop a plane to take in a game in other parts of the country. An avid fan of his Wisconsin football team, Gene shared a love of the Green Bay Packers with his father, Howard. He also shared a love of soccer with his family and friends and would enjoy watching the Manchester United team as well as his beloved Nashville Soccer Club.

Mr. Graves is survived by his wife, Crystal Moore Graves of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister Karleen Sue Graves; sister, Judy Marie O’Niel; and sister, Peggy Ellen (Amelia Barnett) Graves.

Gene had a gentle nature about him that made him friends with all he met along the road. He was loved by his family and was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, August 24, 2026, at Powell's Chapel Baptist Church, 8697 Powell's Chapel Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
