Gary Tenpenny, age 78, of Smyrna, TN, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 4, 2017. A native of Cannon County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jessee Clyde and Mamie Davenport Tenpenny; sisters, Valma Tenpenny and Rhebea Hagood; and brother, Wendell Tenpenny.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Larry Kirk will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Tenpenny is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Reed Tenpenny; son,Van Gary Tenpenny Jr. and his wife Amanda of Murfreesboro; and grandchildren, Austin Allen Tenpenny and his wife Cara of Gulf Breeze, FL, Daniel Weston Tenpenny and his wife Jacki of Graniteville, SC, and Nathan Thomas Tenpenny and his wife Lindsey of Murfreesboro.

Gary was a 1958 graduate of Smyrna High School and was the owner and operator of Tenpenny Tire Center in Smyrna for over 40 years where he was an ASE Certified Master Mechanic of all disciplines. In the late 60's and early 70's Gary served on the Smyrna Fire Department and was certified on the pump engine. He was a Past Master of Sam Davis Masonic Lodge #661. He was a Charter Member of Smyrna Rotary and was instrumental in starting the Smyrna Aviation Days. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.

Jimmy Reed, Bubba Reed, John Wilder, Bryan Wilson, Russell Clark, Chris Stanley and Ed Raymer will serve as pallbearers. The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club, Carl Jenkins, David Reed, Randy Reed, Richard Radford, John Kersey, Dan McClure, Mark Duncan, and Dr. John C. Corban will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Tenpenny can be made to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.
