Woodfin Follis
July 8, 1936 – September 26, 2025
Frances "Sissy" Woodfin Follis, age 89, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, September 26, 2025. A native and lifelong resident of Murfreesboro, she was born on July 8, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John T. Woodfin, Jr. and Virginia Black Woodfin.
Sissy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Don Edgar Follis. She was also preceded by her sister, Virginia Love Beasley (Harold) and her brother, John Benton "Bubba" Woodfin (Kay). She is survived by her sons Mark Edgar Follis (Laura) and Don Woodfin Follis (Leah); daughter Virginia Love "Ginna" Follis; granddaughters Rachel Follis Dominy (Nathaniel), Caroline Miller Follis, and Olivia Jane Follis; grandson Harrison Woodfin Follis; and great-granddaughter Margaret Elizabeth Dominy. Aunt Sissy was also beloved by many nieces and nephews.
A 1954 graduate of Central High School, Sissy attended Missouri Christian College for Women and graduated in 1958 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. During her years at UTK, she enjoyed membership in Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, where she formed lifelong friendships that led to yearly reunions at Fairfield Glades.
Sissy was a lifelong, faithful member of Central Christian Church where her grandmother, Frances Love Black, was a charter member. She was active and enjoyed participating in many community endeavors. She served as president of the Rutherford Hospital Auxiliary, a board member and volunteer for Community Helpers and a founding board member of the Rutherford County Primary Care and Hope Clinic. Upon joining the Charity Circle of Murfreesboro, she served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Day Care Center at First Presbyterian Church and decorating for the annual Ugly Duckling Ball. A talented gardener, she loved arranging flowers for events, as well as for family and friends. Another favorite pastime was playing bridge with dear friends.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Sissy radiated beauty, courage, unconditional love and her strong faith in God to all who knew her. Her devotion to her grandchildren was immeasurable. Whether building sandcastles, hiking in the woods, or reading books, Sissy's fun-loving spirit could turn ordinary days into magical ones. Sissy was happiest hosting her friends and family around her dining table or in the haven of her backyard on Stones River. Her gifts of warmth, compassion and creativity touched so many lives.
The family would like to thank Honeyhill caregivers Mary, Ruby, Marianne and Vanessa, as well as Alive Hospice nurse, Katie, for their attentiveness to Sissy while in their care.
