Obituary

FRANCES EDWARDS ELLIS BUCKNER, age 92, of Murfreesboro, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at AdamsPlace Health Care. Born on October 3, 1916 in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Corrine Kimbrough and William Barrett Edwards. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter C. Ellis, who died in 1953, and her second husband, Rutherford County General Sessions Judge James W. Buckner, who died in 2001. Her brother was the late William B. Edwards, Jr. of Fort Worth, TX. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Central Christian Church, 404 East Main Street, with the Reverends Steven Odom and Mark Calvert-Rosenberger officiating. A private burial service for the family will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Buckner is survived by her daughters, Judith Ellis Presley and her husband, David Presley, of Arlington, Texas; Joanne Ellis Hollingsworth and her husband, Bill Hollingsworth; and Katheryn Buckner Hoover and her husband, David Hoover, of Murfreesboro; four grandsons, Ken Hewlett, David (Jennifer) Baltimore, Chip Hoover and Andrew Hoover, six granddaughters, Belinda (Bob) Morris, Kimberly (Vance) Owen, LeAnne (John) Houle, VonDeane (Paul) Kimball, Jacque (Chris) Spintzyk, and Mary Frances (Justin) Luffman, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Buckner was a member and Elder Emeritus of Central Christian Church. A community activist, she was a member of Rutherford Countys Democratic Women, and for 26 years served as Treasurer for the Womans Club of Murfreesboro. She was a longtime pet owner, bridge enthusiast, and an original owner of the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studios in Murfreesboro and Smyrna. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family is scheduled for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials honoring Mrs. Buckner may be given to Central Christian Church, or Caris Hospice of Murfreesboro, 805 S. Church St., Suite 1, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
