November 9, 1934 – March 20, 2022
Inez Faye Smith, age 87, of Madison, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Nashville, TN on Sunday, March 20, 2022. She was born on November 9, 1934 in Anniston, AL, where she attended school and later worked and retired from Kitchin's Department Store. Faye raised her family in Anniston, as well as Decatur, GA, and after retirement moved to the Oxford House Apartments in Oxford, AL. She relocated with her family to Madison, AL in 2020. Faye was of the Methodist faith and attended church with her family at Cheaha Baptist Church in Oxford, AL.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alton Taft; her mother, Vadie Jane Blackmon; her infant daughter, Susan Elaine Smith; and her son, Freddy Joe Smith. Faye is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Woods (Hugh) of Alpharetta, GA and Kimberly Heflin (Randall) of Madison, AL; five grandchildren, DeShea Looft (Jay) of Alpharetta, GA, Jessica Peterson (Dan) of Trussville, AL, Hunter Heflin of Madison, AL, Kiley Heflin (Emily Calvert, fiancé) of Huntsville, AL, and Bailey Mackey (John) of Triana, AL; and 2 great-granddaughters, Emory and Gentry Looft. Faye was affectionately known as Grandmommy and Gan-Gan among her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Words cannot express the joy and happiness she brought to her family. Faye never complained and was happy just to be among friends and family. Her infectious smile and joyous laughter were only surpassed by her inner beauty, love and kindness for anyone she met. Indeed she never met a stranger.
The family would like to thank the staff at Alive Hospice of Nashville, TN for their kindness and assistance during the difficult time of her passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alive Hospice, 1710 Patterson St, Nashville, TN 37203. The family will have a private remembrance ceremony at a later date.
