Evelyne
Peery
May 15, 1928 – December 19, 2020
Evelyne Peery was born on May 15, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, and left this earth at 92 years young on December 19, 2020. Evelyne was the daughter of Hubert and Bertie Byers and the family ultimately settled in Algood, Tennessee, where Evelyne attended high school. Throughout her life, Evelyne claimed to be the star player of her high school basketball team (they never won a game). It was in her teenage years that she met the love of her life, Willard Peery, and the couple married on September 7, 1947. Evelyne and Willard enjoyed more than 70 years of marriage together prior to Willard's passing in August 2018.Evelyne was a faithful member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and was a lifelong member of the Charity Circle of Murfreesboro. Evelyne and her husband traveled the world together with family and friends. They were also avid supporters of MTSU athletics, often traveling to away football and basketball games dubbed as the "Raider Roadies. "Evelyne loved to play bridge and entertain. The Peery home was a regular gathering place for work colleagues, family friends, and members of the community. Nicknamed "Mimi" and "Big E," Evelyne was often described as a kind, hospitable, and gracious southern lady who was also extremely witty. Evelyne is survived by daughter Cindy Flippin and husband Harry, son Mike Peery and wife Crystal, granddaughters Meagan Flippin and Melissa Peery, and step-grandchildren Mitzi Tuck and Reid Lawrence. The family would like to thank caregivers Marie, Tammy, and especially Connie as well as long-time friend Betty Pope. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a visitation will not be held. Family and friends are invited to a service that will be held on Monday, January 4that 11 AM at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Mark's Disaster Team, St. Mark's Choir, the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.www.woodfinchapel.com
