Evelyn Mitchell, age 96, of LaVergne, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Brother Jon Gary Williams and Brother Bob Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery. Miss Mitchell is survived by her cousin, Amelia Hayes and her husband Bobby of Nolensville, TN; along with numerous second cousins. A native of Rutherford County, TN, she was preceded in death by her parents, David Allen and Bertie Naron Mitchell; and her brother, Clyde Davis "Preacher" Mitchell. Miss Mitchell was a life-time member of LaVergne Church of Christ. She was a 1936 graduate of Smyrna High School and a 1940 graduate of Murfreesboro Teacher's College, what is now MTSU. Miss Mitchell was an elementary school teacher in Burke Hollow, TN and in Dunlap, TN, before working for and retiring with National Life and Accident Insurance as a secretary after 35 years of service. She enjoyed volunteering with the Red Cross and was an avid bowler. Cecil Painter, Donnie Fergus, Jerry Mitchell, Lewis Edde, Charles Talley, Jerry Prince and Richard Vaughn will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.
