Ernest Sam Lane, Jr., passed away on November 25, 2008, at the age of 93. Sam was a lifetime resident of Rutherford County except for his service to country during WWII when he earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for many years at the Home Furniture Company and retired from Wickes Lumber in 1980. Sam was a founding member of the Murfreesboro Exchange Club, a long-time member of the American Legion and the Sons of the American Revolution, and past Junior and Senior Warden of Saint Pauls Episcopal Church. He was the son of Ernest Sam Lane, Sr., and Helen Patton Lane, both deceased. He was the husband of Elizabeth Chapman Lane, also deceased. He is survived by his stepson, John Waltz Salvage, Charlotte, NC, his sister Judith Lane Young, Nashville, two grandchildren, Anna Mackins Salvage, Plano, Texas, and John Waltz Salvage, III, Columbus, Ohio, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 10:30am Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Father Gene Wise officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Linebaugh Library, Caris Hospice, or American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Lane.
